wally's blues

February 03, 2007 is another ordinary day for all of us, but to Wally Gonzalez fanatics this is another day to look forward to. So we prepared ourselves and proceeded to My Brothers Mustache or MBM to others to see and watch Wally Gonzales for the ‘nth time. Upon arriving thereat, we were able to watch the second set of Mon Espia, another veteran when it comes to the music scene. After his set ended and a few intermission, Mr. Gonzales climbed the stage accompanied by four seasoned musician, Dondie Ledesma-bass guitar, Chris-kahon drums, Ruger-vocalist and the keyboard guy. They started their first set with a bluesy rendition of Eric Claptons Layla followed by Jealous Again, a Black Flag original but I think their version is from the Black Crowes (correct me if I’m wrong). Next on their set list was another Clapton classic Cocaine, Rolling Stone’s Honky Tonk Woman and Lynyrd Skynyrd Sweet Home Alabama, then Mr. G laid the intro of Himig Natin, a well applaused song followed by Balong Malalim and an acoustic/electric version of Wally’s Blues. They ended their first set with a Jimi Hendrix version of Hey Joe and the Doors Love me Two Times. Their second set started with a roaring rendition of Roadhouse Blues and Break on Through. Then its pinoy rock again with Beep Beep, Sarap ng Buhay, Pinoy Blues, Project, Kahit Ano Mangyari, Rock and Roll sa Mundo. My jaw almost dropped when they started the intro of Robert Cray classic “Old Love”, with the help from Mon Espia doing the acoustic lead. They ended their set with a very nice rendition of Freebird.
